Sister projects

[edit]

Anyone oppose replacing the current "sister project" box at the buttom of the page with the one proposed here? This way we can decrease the redundant white space and blank area. At the same time, will incorporate the images of logos which I cannot see right now. --Saqib (talk) 13:44, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Seems fine to me. Powers (talk) 13:33, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
It looks good to me, too. Danapit (talk) 17:47, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
The new proposal is definitely an improvement. I say go for it. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 22:58, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposal for semi-protection of Talk:Main Page

[edit]

There has been an increased incidence in vandalism on this page over the past few months. Would anyone object to semi-protecting this talk page? James Atalk 08:44, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I had actually tossed around the idea of making this same proposal, but is there any precedent for protecting a talk page? Aren't talk pages supposed to be open to anyone to ask questions or give feedback about the pages they're affiliated with? -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 12:42, 4 November 2015 (UTc)
I see no reason to semi-protect. We've seen 5 or so incidents of vandalism in the past three months.. While that's a rise for us, it's hardly a problem. IP-users and new users should be able to ask questions here. Wikipedia's mainpage talk gets vandalized a couple of times a day, and they only semi-protect temporarily when it gets really bad :-) I suggest we just leave it as it is, and accept that high visibility pages will be vandalized now or then. If things get really bad, we can always place a restriction for the day or so. JuliasTravels (talk) 14:40, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well actually, IP-users and new users shouldn't be asking new questions here, except if it explicitly concerns the content of the Main Page. That could be another reason to semi-protect; and when they do attempt to edit, a notice could display directing them to the pub or the Tourist Office to ask their question instead. Regarding the vandalism, that might seem low but it's one of the highest incidences of any page on our wiki. It's also usually always spambots, who seem to have this page in their sights, so it can only get worse now. James Atalk 22:41, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure, but let's solve problems when they actually arise. It's not the wiki-way to start semi-protecting when it's not really necessary - and that's especially true for talk pages. Due to our SEO issues, we've just seen little vandalism, compared to our bigger sister projects. As we grow, we're bound to see more vandalism across the board, and this is one of the first pages we'll see it on. It shouldn't tempt us to start protecting; if it all goes according to plan, our active community will grow too and we can keep up :-) JuliasTravels (talk) 09:35, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
